This week’s award goes north of the border to a somewhat new arrival in MLS. Blerim Dzemaili has been quietly putting together pretty impressive numbers in his stint with Montreal so far. His two goals on Saturday bring his total to six goals in just over a thousand minutes. Adding his five assists, further shows just how productive the Swiss midfielder has already been.
On Saturday night, he scored two of his side’s three goals as well as contributing a bit on the defensive front as well with three tackles, a clearance, and an interception. While Montreal’s main main has and will continue to be Ignacio Piatti, Dzemaili’s signing gives opposition teams something else to think about.
Since Sean Johnson’s curious summer moves from both Chicago and Atlanta, he’s impressed and looks to be the steady hand at the back that NYCFC have so desperately needed in the past two seasons. On Saturday night against LA, Johnson was in his finest form of the season making 5 saves (two of which will likely be save of the week nominations), while showing excellent command of the area making important claims. Johnson’s form has seen him once again around the fringes of the National Team, and if Bruce was watching his old side on Saturday night, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him there once again come call-ups time.
