Players of the Week - Week 14

It was one heck of a Saturday night in Frisco, Texas as FC Dallas handed Real Salt Lake a beating of historic proportions. The home side piled on their lowly visitors, taking a 5-0 lead into halftime, a new MLS record. The team put on a show in a 6-2 victory; 3 assists from Michael Barrios, and a dream debut for 16 year old Jesus Ferreira. But for one Roland Lamah, the night was extra special. The Belgium international scored a 30 minute natural hattrick and has naturally earned himself Total MLS’ prestigious distinction as our Offensive Player of the Week.

Lamah got the ball rolling early, tapping in a low cross sent in from Barrios to the far post in the 8th minute to put FC Dallas up 1-0. He added his second of the night just twelve minutes later when Maxi Urruti found Lamah at the penalty spot with an early cross, as Roland calmly slotted it home with his left foot. The hat trick was complete in the 31st minute as Lamah got on the end of a through ball and buried it past an angry Matt Van Oekel. After scoring just 1 goal in 11 previous starts, Lamah now finds himself 2nd in FC Dallas scoring. Talk about a confidence boost.

It’s not often that a game featuring 4 goals has 3 of them scored by defenders. But when Atlanta opened the scoring via Greg Garza on their first trip to BC Place, it quickly turned into a defenders duel that would eventually be won by Costa Rican international and Whitecaps stalwart Kendall Waston. As is the case most other weeks, a brace would likely have the big defender up for consideration as Offensive Player of the Week. Kendall’s 2 aerial wins, 2 tackles, 7 clearances, and 6 recoveries, not to mention the fact that his goals were an equalizer and an eventual match winner, makes Waston’s huge performance more than deserving of a Defensive Player of the Week honour.
