Week 4 Preview

Week 4 is a strange one as most teams are off for the international break. The USMMT beat down Honduras 6-0 in a massive World Cup qualifier, and take on Panama on Tuesday. Back in MLS there isn't much to go over with only three games on the slate, but here we go...

Best game of the week: New York Red Bulls v. Real Salt Lake

This one isn't the best game for what will happen on the field so much as the intrigue around RSL following the "dismissal" of head coach Jeff Cassar just three games into the season. Objectively, RBNY should win this match no problem, even without Sacha Kljestan who is with the U.S. national team. Kyle Beckerman will miss the match for RSL due to red card suspension, but the real question here is how will RSL respond to Cassar's firing? Saturday will start to give us some answers.

Worst game of the week: New England Revolution v. Minnesota United FC

I mean, there isn't much to say about this one. MNUFC was fortunate to get a point against the Colorado Rapids last week, but they aren't exactly playing up to par with MLS standards. New England isn't great either, but I expect forward Kei Kamara to get his goals against a dreadful Minnesota back line. Loons fans are still hoping for their first MLS victory, but I just don't see it happening this week.

The rest:

Columbus Crew v. Portland Timbers

Welcome to the 2015 MLS Cup rematch. Portland returns to MAPFRE Stadium where they won their first and only MLS Cup, and they look like they may be even better now than they were then. PTFC's attack is deadly, although they'll be without Darlington Nagbe who's with the USMNT. They're also missing Costa Rican CDM David Guzman, who's probably been the Timbers most important player this season. Crew SC will be another good test for the Portland attack, as Columbus' defense has been playing well so far in 2017. This one honestly could go either way, with a draw being very likely.

Hot take of the week: I'm not sure how hot of a take it really is, but Kei Kamara will get a hat trick against MNUFC. The real question is will he break out the twerking again?

GIF of the week: Last week we had a number of contenders for GIF of the week, but this week it wasn't close. Check out this heartwarming GIF where a dad shares a loving moment with his daughter, embracing the energetic atmosphere in Atlanta. Touching, isn't it?
