Union and Whitecaps Prepare for Opening Day with Twitter Fight

The Vancouver Whitecaps dropped their new kit last night to…uh…mixed reviews.

Seemingly out of nowhere, the Philadelphia Union decided this would be a good time to go on a twitter rampage. The team’s official account sent out a since-deleted tweet that read “@MLS @WhitecapsFC boring release for a boring kit.”

Predictably, that didn’t go over so well with ‘Caps fans, one in particular who let the Union know about it. How did Philly respond? By doubling down, of course. (Warning NSFW language)

So of course Vancouver had to fire back.

And then Seattle jumped in too, for good measure.

Twitter banter between clubs is always fun and it’s especially entertaining to see a Philadelphia team going full Philadelphia. Excellent job of staying on brand. As the Whitecaps pointed out, they’ll play the Union March 5th in the season opener for both teams and the only regular-season meeting between the clubs. Expect the respective social media teams to have their fingers ready.

Oh, and if you’re wondering about Union kit, here it is.
