Your beloved Rob Ditta is not here (gasp!!) this week. This stupid thing called real life got in the way, but it’s okay! I’m ready to step up like an MLS squad player during World Cup Qualifying and dish out the prestigious TotalMLS Player of the Week honors.
Our Week 26 Offensive Player of the Week is NYCFC’s Frank Lampard
Remember when Frank Lampard was the worst DP signing of all time? Yeah, neither does anyone else at this point. Lampard was the central figure last Thursday in a furious NYCFC rally to steal all three points from the visiting DC United. Six minutes after David Villa leveled the game at 1-1, Lampard found himself in the right place at the right time (funny how that ALWAYS seems to happen for him), pouncing on a loose ball and slotting home to give NYCFC an 86th minute lead. Then, after DC looked like it had secured at least a point with a 91st minute equalizer, Lampard struck again. He made a defender look silly before calmly rolling the ball into the bottom corner for a 93rd minute winner.
Our Week 26 Defensive Player of the Week is Victor Ulloa
Not to be outdone by his fellow midfield counterpart Lampard, Ulloa also got a game-winning goal last week. But to say that was his only contribution does a disservice to his defensive work against an always-dangerous Portland Timbers attack. Ulloa was all over the field as he showed off true box-to-box ability. Opta credits him with nine recoveries, a tackle, an interception and a key clearance. Dallas continues to lead the Supporters Shield standings thanks to quality minutes from its young stars like Ulloa.
