It didn’t go quite as they would’ve hoped, and it didn’t feel quite as good as last season, but after a wild Sunday evening match up against the New York Red Bulls, Toronto FC’s comeback draw has them clinching a playoff berth for the second consecutive season.
You never forget your first time, but after suffering through 8 years of heartbreak, TFC fans get to enjoy the feeling of MLS playoff soccer yet again.
Spurred on by an incredible performance from Jozy Altidore, Toronto erased an embarrassing 3-1 Red Bulls lead, including an own goal, to equalize in the 86th minute.
Jozy continues to silence his critics by scoring at a rate that many criticized him for not producing early on, and after essentially putting the team on his back, the celebration in the stands was underway.
But celebrating is exactly what captain Michael Bradley doesn’t believe is necessary. The General, despite not having his best game in a TFC kit, got TFC on the board in the first half cutting the Red Bulls lead in half. However, in his post match interview, Bradley made it very clear that this team is capable of much more and wouldn’t be celebrating a draw on the night although it secured TFCs spot in the post-season, an unbelievable achievement for a team with a history of failure.
It seemed at times as if the Reds were doing whatever they could to not get a result on the night. However, with a couple of very key pieces not available, specifically Tosaint Ricketts and of course reigning MVP Sebastian Giovinco, TFC was able to do the unthinkable and come back from a 2 goal deficit. It leads many to believe, maybe Bradley is on to something.
