It was announced this afternoon that the Chicago Fire and their DP striker Gilberto have parted ways following the mutual termination of his contract. This move is one that has been predicted for a while as the Brazilian striker never seemed settled with the Eastern Conference team.
Gilberto made 19 MLS appearances for Chicago scoring 5 goals and adding 4 assists. Chicago was Gilberto's second MLS club having been brought to the league by Toronto FC in 2014. Chicago Fire General Manager Nelson Rodriguez released this statement:
“Despite his best efforts, Gilberto was not able to reach his top form in Major League Soccer, He is a good person, with a big heart and a passion for the game, and we hope he finds success at his next stop.”
The Chicago Fire host the San Jose Earthquakes this Friday night.
