In a surprising release this afternoon from the Philadelphia Union, it was announced that the club and midfielder Vincent Nogueira had agreed to a mutual termination of the Frenchmen's contract. Nogueira had made 64 league appearances for the Union netting 9 goals and providing three assists.
The reason given for the termination by the club was "personal health issues". It is unknown what these issues entail at this time.
Earnie Stewart, Sporting Director for the Union released this statement:
“We want to thank Vincent for his contributions to the club over the last two years and we wish him the best, both personally and professionally, At this time, it was our desire to enable him to be with his family at home in France.”
Nogueira himself echoed similar sentiments:
“I want to thank Philadelphia Union for their understanding of my situation and wish my teammates well going forward,”
Vincent was unarguably a crucial part of a Philadelphia side that has been defying preseason expectations and is currently sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference. The Union will return to MLS action this Saturday against NYCFC at Yankee Stadium.
