Amidst the recent trend of club and country rebranding, the United States Soccer Federation quietly unveiled the new crest for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Keeping consistent with the new branding for the United States national teams, the logo draws many comparisons to the U.S. logo. The new shield is exactly the same shape and blue color, and the interior is separated by a thick white margin. The background is a solid red, with the middle being a white silhouette of the U.S. Open Cup trophy enclosed on either side by the numbers 19 and 14, representing the founding year of the tournament, 1914.
The drawings for the first and second rounds of the 2016 U.S. Open Cup tournament will be held tomorrow, April 6th, at 9:00am Eastern.
